Meta El Paso Data Center and McCloud Generation Facility

Meta Platforms is constructing a $10 billion data center in Northeast El Paso, Texas. To power this facility, El Paso Electric plans to build a nearly $500 million, 366-megawatt natural gas-fired power plant called the McCloud Generation Facility, consisting of 813 small gas-fired generators. The power plant will initially be paid for by Meta during a one- to five-year bridge period, after which the costs will be shifted to all utility customers. The data center will create over 4,000 construction jobs and 300 full-time operational jobs. Meta is also investing in community projects including job training grants, water conservation, and renewable energy to offset environmental impacts.
