Methane Emissions Reduction at Bowie Mine

Switchback Restoration purchased the abandoned Bowie No. 1 Mine in 2023 and implemented a project to drill holes to pipe methane gas emissions into a combustion tube where the methane is burned to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The project registers emissions reduction credits with the American Carbon Registry for use in cap-and-trade programs. The land cost about $400,000, and an additional $1 million was invested in drilling and equipment.
