The project involves the purchase of three Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drones equipped with high-definition video, 3-D rendering, and infrared capabilities, stationed at the 18th Street Yard and Western Avenue Coach Yard. The drones are controlled remotely by licensed Metra Police drone pilots and can share visuals with first responders and partner agencies. The project is funded through a $620,000 grant from FEMA's Transit Security Grant Program and aims to protect critical transportation infrastructure and the traveling public. |
