Description | Illinois American Water completed a $157 million multi-year upgrade and enhancement project to the Metro East regional water treatment plant near East St. Louis. The upgrades focused on service reliability, water quality, operational efficiencies, and incorporated state-of-the-art environmental technology. Improvements include construction of an elevated water storage tank, new raw water pumps and variable frequency drives, a diesel high-service backup pump, two clear wells tripling storage capacity, a new ultraviolet water treatment system, upgraded chemical feed systems, enhanced security and fire alarm systems, increased backup generator capacity, and a new residual pump station and concrete residuals pond. |
