Metro-North Stations Audio and Visual Upgrades

The state of Connecticut plans to spend more than $40 million on construction to upgrade audio and visual information systems at 28 Metro-North Railroad stations on the main New Haven Line and the New Canaan and Danbury branch lines. The upgrades include new public address systems for clearer announcements, new digital platform displays with real-time train information, more detailed arrival and departure boards, customer information displays with alerts about service outages, and new standardized signs for better navigation. The systems will be connected to a fiber optic network and tied to Grand Central Terminal for coordinated announcements across the New Haven Line and other branches. Construction is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026 and finish by the second quarter of 2028, with track closures occurring at night to minimize disruption.
