Description

Description

The project will improve access to Widgeon Marsh Regional Park, establish an approximately 9.5 km trail network and mitigate geotechnical and hydro-technical hazards to allow safe public use. The existing regional park system is at capacity and new parkland and public access has been identified as a priority. To address this need, the applicant plans to develop the Widgeon Marsh park reserve into a regional park that will both protect a threatened ecosystem, while also providing public access to parkland. The applicant is working together with Katzie First Nation and Kwikwetlem First Nation to ensure that the design and development of the park incorporates traditional knowledge, and reflects the values of these indigenous peoples. The project works will include: - hydrotechnical and geotechnical risk abatement; - convert existing roads to trails or multi-use path (approx. 4.5km); - create new trails or multi-use path (approx. 5km) including footbridges; - road improvement for park access (approx. 750m); - decommissioning of the road at Stewart Creek; - ecological enhancements including restoration with native plants to enhance salmon habitat and removal of invasive plants; and, - related works.
