Description | The Mexican government, led by President Claudia Sheinbaum, has announced openness to hydraulic fracturing (fracking) to extract natural gas from unconventional or geologically complex deposits. The aim is to reduce natural gas imports from the United States and increase domestic production. Pemex's 2025-2035 Strategic Plan includes reactivating evaluation of complex geological deposits through contractual schemes allowing private investment. Production is expected to start in 2027 with projections of significant increases by 2035. |
