Description
Description | Opportunity The Michael Garron Hospital—formerly known as the Toronto East General Hospital—is one of Ontario’s leading community teaching hospitals. The hospital’s current facilities are overcrowded and inpatient and clinical space in older wings is no longer efficient for the demands of modern medicine. To enable to delivery of accessible, high-quality patient care and replace some of the oldest and least functional space at the hospital, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care is procuring a new patient care tower. Results The project created a new eight-storey patient care centre with two levels of ambulatory care clinics and six floors of inpatient beds, 75 per cent of which will be in single patient rooms. The patient tower now has 217 beds including 165 medical surgical rehabilitation beds, six child and youth mental health beds, and 46 adult mental health beds. The project adds approximately 550,000 square feet to the existing hospital and includes renovation of approximately 100,000 square feet of existing space, replacing some of the oldest spaces in the hospital. Two levels of underground parking, a new main entrance and accommodation for other administrative and support services is also included in the project. The facility achieved a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification and features a green roof. |
