Description | Michigan is expanding its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program. The goal is to have a charging station every 50 miles, with plans to build 150 charging stations in total. The state plans to spend $51 million in 2026 to build additional charging stations, with 60-70 more stations expected to be built this year. Progress has been slow due to challenges with contractors unfamiliar with government contracts. Some sites are in the design phase, and full operational status is expected by 2029 or 2030. |
