Description
Description | The Michipicoten Water Treatment Plant Upgrade project in Michipicoten First Nation, Ontario aims to provide a sustainable and reliable water supply to support future housing and population expansions. This capital project involves expanding the existing water treatment plant (WTP) with a new conventional treatment system, including UV and chlorination, and upgrading the intake screen to meet Department of Fisheries and Oceans regulations. The project will construct a building addition to house new treatment equipment, expand the below-ground reservoir, implement a two-train conventional treatment system, install a new distribution pumping system, and decommission outdated units. The upgrades will increase the treatment capacity by 250%, deliver fire flows of 32 litres per second (L/s), and support proposed developments. The outcome will be a fully upgraded WTP capable of meeting the community’s potable water demands, enhancing fire suppression capabilities, supporting future expansion, and complying with environmental regulations. |
