The abstract at hand gives a general overview of Statistics Denmark’s (SD) application and actions proposed for the grant titled Micro-data Linking for SBS-CIS and Development of tourism statistics managed by the European Commission, Eurostat (DG ESTAT). The application covers actions under work area 1 and 2 of the grant call. Work area 1 (WP1) – Microdata Linking (MDL) One of the general objectives of the call is to prove the feasibility of developing new statistics and indicators and to discover new information without introducing new burdens on the enterprises. This is exactly the purpose of this work package – to test the feasibility of statistics production via MDL and develop new statistics output related to business performance and innovation capacities in enterprises. In order to ensure that the statistical foundation for such investigations are solid, SD aim to extend and report on the MDL infrastructure while also outlining legal and institutional obstacles to MDL. To assure the data quality, statistical coherence of e.g. CIS and SBS will be tested at the microdata level. Work area 2 (WP2) – Tourism statistics The objectives in this area in to incorporate data from the major rental platforms (e.g. Airbnb) into the Danish tourism statistics. This is necessary to ensure the quality of the figures to avoid double counting, in relation to holiday homes that are rented via the rental platforms and at the same time collected via the existing holiday home survey. Developing and assuring the quality of this methodology is especially important as more and more holiday homes are rented out via international platforms, decreasing the overall coverage of the existing statistics. Incorporate the rental via international platforms will ensure that the statistics continue to be comprehensive. The method proposed, where the owners of the holiday homes are asked about their rental patterns, can be reused in other countries.
