Micron Chipmaking Complex in Clay

Micron Technology is in the final stages of obtaining the first three permits needed to build a semiconductor manufacturing complex in Clay, New York. The project involves destroying about 200 acres of wetlands and threatened bird habitat, with plans to set aside more than 1,400 acres of wetlands and bird habitat elsewhere as mitigation. The complex will include up to four fabrication plants producing over 1 billion memory chips annually. The project requires nearly three dozen approvals from 12 government agencies and is the largest private investment in New York state history.
