Micron has moved from planning into construction of a massive semiconductor campus in Clay, New York. The company celebrated a major milestone by pouring the first concrete for its first semiconductor fabrication facility (fab) at the site. The project is expected to bring thousands of jobs to the region, necessitating a significant increase in housing to accommodate the incoming workforce. Local leaders and Onondaga County are working with companies connected to the project, including major contractor Bechtel, to address housing needs and prevent competition between incoming workers and current homeowners. The housing strategy includes building about 1,300 new units annually, with a focus on diverse housing options such as senior housing, affordable housing, single-family homes, and apartments.
