Micron Technology Chipmaking Plant in Clay

Micron Technology plans to build a massive chipmaking plant in Clay, New York, involving the destruction of hundreds of acres of wetlands and the use of toxic chemicals in production. The project is expected to create up to 9,000 jobs at the plant and another 40,000 spinoff jobs in the community. The company plans to start construction in November and build continuously for 16 years, with the first fabrication plant starting production in 2029. The project could cost $100 billion and is the largest private investment in New York state history. Micron could receive more than $20 billion in taxpayer subsidies from the CHIPS and Science Act.
