Description

Description

Microsoft plans to build a second massive artificial intelligence data center in Wisconsin, increasing its total spending in the state to over $7 billion. The new $4 billion data center will join the existing $3.3 billion data center in Mount Pleasant. The site will eventually house the world's most powerful AI supercomputer, utilizing hundreds of thousands of Nvidia chips. The initial data center is on track to open next year, employing about 500 people at peak, expanding to 800 after the second center is complete. The project includes pre-paying for electrical infrastructure to avoid raising local electricity rates and implementing a state-of-the-art cooling system to reduce water use. Microsoft also plans to build solar power elsewhere in Wisconsin to offset energy use, though new fossil fuel power generation will be near the facilities.
