Middle and Lower Danube Cycling Routes

The main objective of Danube Cycling was to introduce and support joint and standardised infrastructural development and new operational activities in the Middle and Lower Danube Region and to promote cycling tourism as a form of sustainable tourist development. The project created and supported national and regional networks of stakeholders along the route, establishing recommendations to improve national policy frameworks. Action plans provide the legal and regulatory instruments for safe and efficient bicycle use. In addition, designs which aim at developing and promoting cycling products along the route were made. The Danube Cycling project paved the way for followup projects such as the “Iron Gate Cycling Route” which aims at connecting Serbia and Romania.
