Description
Description | The MEIDP is a proposed 2,000-kilometre subsea pipeline running beneath the Arabian Sea, connecting Oman directly with the Gujarat coastline in India. It aims to transport nearly 31 million standard cubic metres per day of natural gas, providing a dependable and competitively priced supply while reducing exposure to maritime bottlenecks and transit nation dependencies. The pipeline would pass through the Arabian Sea via Oman and the UAE, avoiding politically sensitive zones, and tap gas reserves from several Gulf countries. It would be among the deepest subsea gas pipelines in the world, reaching depths of nearly 3,450 metres. The project is estimated to cost around Rs 40,000 crore and could take five to seven years to complete if approved. |
