Description | A high-rise building in Midtown Manhattan, part of the largest office to apartment conversion project in New York City history, was deemed structurally unstable after a buckling steel column was discovered on the 21st floor. The building recently had an additional four floors of apartment space added. The city issued a complaint for unapproved excavation work to the foundation. The building had received numerous complaints and inspections over the past two years. An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the structural issues and plans for stabilization and repair involve transferring loads safely to the ground and replacing columns. |
