Description | The City of Raleigh is redirecting $3.5 million from the abandoned Six Forks Road widening project to fund early milestones for a proposed multimodal bridge over Interstate 440 in Midtown. The bridge will link Wake Towne Drive to the southern segment of Quail Hollow Drive, connecting development on both sides of the Beltline. It is designed to accommodate pedestrians, cyclists, and cars, and is part of Raleigh's Walkable Midtown Plan adopted in 2020 to improve mobility and connectivity across the Beltline. A feasibility study was completed in 2023, and the city has engaged engineering firm Kimley-Horn to begin preliminary design work. The full projected cost and timeline have yet to be determined. |
