Description | The Marion High School building trades program is constructing two houses on Midway Court to revitalize a neighborhood in Marion, Illinois. The houses have three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room and kitchen, a utility room, and a garage. The City of Marion owns the land and plans to sell the houses. Students are responsible for nearly every aspect of building the houses, spending the first three periods of each school day at the site. Construction began after approval from the Marion city council and school board in January 2025 and is expected to be near completion by the end of the 2025-2026 school year. Additionally, students built a community pocket park across the street with a basketball goal, benches, and garden spaces. |
