Description

Description

The purpose of this project is to construct a new 2-lane road (Military Drive) from the new proposed east-west Infantry Road that is currently under design to the Hampton Inn. The new 2-lane road will extend Infantry Road eastward, connecting South Lumpkin Road with Benning Road along the northern property boundary of the National Infantry Museum. The project will also include an extension of the Follow Me bike trail eastward across museum property and northward along Benning Road. For the three-year period from 2016 to 2018 (which is the latest data available), the crash rates along this section of South Lumpkin Road, a Minor Arterial, is less than the statewide average for similar functional classification Minor Arterials. The proposed project will provide economic development opportunities in the Fort Benning area, and support the efficient movement of people and goods within Muscogee County.
