The Milk and Meat Processing Project in Chile will cover the foreign exchange cost for the development of this project. Nineteen plants are tentatively scheduled for inclusion in this project. More than half of the projected investment will be directed toward modernization and expansion of 14 existing facilities, while the remainder will be used to complete one facility already under construction and to build four new plants. Investment will be concentrated in the south central portion of Chile where conditions for milk production are ideal. Included in the project are foreign-purchased equipment for pasteurizing, condensing and evaporating milk; equipment to make butter, cheese, ice cream and other milk products; equipment for transporting and storing dairy products; and related consulting services. Improvement and expansion of the milk and meat processing industries are necessary to meet present and anticipated demands. It is also a necessity if the goals of the agricultural development program will be fully achieved.
