Description

Description

This project is the upgrade of Mill Road to enable it to be more resilient to the effects of climate change. Mill Road is the main entrance road into the Village and has a steep downhill grade to its termination at Front Street. It currently uses ditches on each side to manage the storm water runoff. The effects of climate change mean that they are experiencing more frequent intense rain events. The result for Mill Road is more severe erosion and washouts. The resulting sediment is carried into the St. John River system. The numerous entrance culverts on Mill Road get clogged with debris from these intense storms. This presents a maintenance problem and requires frequent repairs. The installation of a storm water management system will enable them to remove the ditches, collect storm water runoff and deposit it into their existing storm water management system in place on Front Street. The conceptual design would fill in the ditches, install catch basins, storm manhole structures, and a storm water collection main that would connect to their recently upgraded system on Front Street. The design would have concrete curbs to direct the flow of storm water to the catch basins and a new asphalt surface.
