The Association of Slovak Film Clubs (ASFK) plays an important role in the Slovak film industry. Founded on 21 June 1993, it is based in Bratislava and serves as the central organisation of Slovak film clubs. ASFK purchases film rights and copies of artistically valuable films for distribution in cinemas and film clubs, thus promoting diverse film experiences. It organises major film festivals such as Febiofest and Project 100, contributing to the cultural scene in Slovakia. It is also involved in organising film workshops, seminars and educational programmes for schools, thereby increasing film literacy and understanding. By bringing film clubs together, it facilitates networking between film enthusiasts and professionals, thus fostering an environment of cooperation within the Slovak film community. Through its educational and festival activities, it contributes to the cultural enrichment of Slovakia by promoting film as an art form and by supporting local talent. This year ASFK is also applying for support from the automatic model. It plans to use the funds to purchase 10 to 12 films and their release in Slovak cinemas. Great emphasis will be placed on the criteria for the selection of titles. Film has long been recognized as a powerful catalyst for change, capable of inspiring social movements, shaping cultural norms, and influencing public opinion. Cinema has the power to shape beliefs and values, iconic characters and stories can inspire audiences with their moral values and resilience. They can highlight pressing social issues, such as human rights, gender equality, and environmental concerns, bringing them to the forefront of public consciousness. The long-term goal of the project is therefore to bring films with these values to Slovak cinemas. ASFK sees this as its mission and privilege to contribute in this way to a more educated world.
