Description | Chinese renewable energy company Ming Yang Smart Energy will invest about US$15 billion in a major renewable energy and green ammonia project in Ethiopia. The project will add 8.4 GW of wind and solar capacity, including 5.4 GW of wind power and 2.8 GW of solar power across the South Omo, Afar, and Somali regions. It will also develop green ammonia production facilities and manufacturing plants for wind turbines and power transmission equipment. The project aims to diversify Ethiopia's electricity mix, which is currently 96% dependent on hydropower, and support the country's industrialisation strategy and position East Africa as a green hydrogen hub. |
