The proposed slate reflects Miramemira (Spain) commitment to developing content with international potential and includes two fiction feature films, one documentary feature and one episodic series: THE AGES, the 5th film by acclaimed director Óliver Laxe (3-time Cannes winner), pushes the boundaries of traditional cinema. The film takes viewers on a journey through time and space and is structured as a portrait of humanity through the ages, from pre-history to a near future -- sensorially evocative, visually grandiose, and profoundly human, THE AGES challenges viewers to consider their relationships with each other and with the natural world. PETROLEO is an eco-thriller/road movie by Álvaro Pulpeiro that tells the story of JUAN, an engineer who is sent from Western Europe to Venezuela, charged with the task of evaluating one of the largest oil fields in the world. After a dizzying journey, fraught with corruption and threats of violence, Juan abandons the study and flees with the help of ANDREA, a young woman who embarks on her own journey into exile. KIRO is a feature-length documentary (biopic) by María Yáñez who spotlights Ana Kiro, the 1970s pop diva of Galician music. The film explores how the singer rose to fame in the 1970s and 1980s and how decades later, Galicians of different ages and backgrounds are re-engaging and re-connecting with the singer and her songs. The film particularly emphasizes Ana Kiro’s impact on the LGBTQ+ community, which has has fully embraced her. UGERES is a 6-episode series, an ethnographic thriller that will be co-directed by Óliver Laxe (pilot episode) and Carlos Amaral. The series tells the story of FERNANDO, a forensic doctor who arrives in a small village on the northern border of Portugal to examine the body of a dead woman found with a strange mask. Forty years later, UXÍA, a Galician archaeologist, finds his dead body during an excavation in the region. Her investigations lead her to the mysterious, ancient Ugeres tribe.
