Description

The 126-km Miskar Gas Pipeline connects the offshore Miskar gas field developed by British Gas (100%) to an on-shore Hannibal gas treatment plant, located about 32-km from Sfax. The state-owned, Entreprise Tunisienne d'Activities Petrolieres (ETAP) has an option to acquire up to 20% ownership of the project. The Miskar gas field is the largest in the country and supplies up to 80% of total demand. Regular gas production began in June 1996. The project company, Miskar Production Concession signed a take or pay contract with the Societe Tunisienne de l'Electricite du Gaz (STEG) for the first five years of production. The estimated total cost of the project at $627.0 million with the debt/equity ratio being 70:30. In 1995, the project developers obtained political risk guarantees from MIGA of $64.8 million, which includes a $14.9 million in reinsurance by the ECGD. Ground breaking took place in 1993.
