The Media & Learning Association (MLA) is an international, not-for-profit membership network that promotes the use of media to enhance innovation in teaching and learning. While our primary focus has been on the application of media to support and enhance teaching in higher education, we have expanded our scope to include the research, pedagogical, and didactical aspects of how media can enhance education including addressing the role of AI as a significant disrupter and catalyst of change. Our work emphasises the development and promotion of responsible media use and policy, ensuring that media is used effectively in educational contexts. Furthermore, we actively advocate for the promotion of digital and media literacy in education. As of mid-November 2024, MLA represents 93 members from 25 countries. In 2025 our mission is to further expand our community and the knowledge and resources available to this community. Core to this mission is our intention that MLA operates in a clear policy-driven manner by providing information about relevant EC policy for our network through effective top-down multiplier strategies and delivering valuable bottom-up contributions on behalf of our network to European policy-makers. Our objectives are fully compliant with EC objectives and the priorities of this call, particularly in respect to improving quality, equity, inclusion and gender equality by supporting knowledge-building and the practice of exchange amongst members on these topics. Furthermore, they support the digital transition particularly in higher education by promoting enhanced practices involving the latest digital developments in areas such as AI and XR as well as promoting international cooperation. We plan to organise two large-scale conferences, 16 online events and the annual MEDEA Awards scheme. Furthermore, we are continuously working to increase attendance, membership, and satisfaction rates as well as the reach and impact of our communication channels.
