Mobile connectivity in Left Wing Extremism [LWE] affected areas-Phase 1 Upgradation

Information Department of Telecommunications [DoT] has come up with Mobile connectivity in Left Wing Extremism [LWE] affected areas-Phase 1 Upgradation with a ticket size of 1884.6 INR Crores. This project in Telecommunication & Telecom Services sub-sector involves The current status of the project is Notice to Proceed and is being developed through the EPC route. Economic/Social Impact of the Project Union Cabinet has approved the upgradation of existing LWE towers from 2G to 4G and O&M extension of existing Towers with an estimated cost of 2,426 Crore i.e. 541.80 Cr. for O&M of existing 2G sites and 1,884.59 Cr for 4G upgradation by BSNL on nomination basis on 27.04.2022. Agreement has been signed with M/s BSNL on 09.05.2024 for upgradation of existing 2343 sites from 2G to 4G with Total Project timeline of 11 Years i.e. 10 Years Project timeline and 1 year Roll out period from the date of signing of the Agreement i.e. upto 08.05.2025. Further, rollout period has been extended upto 08.11.2025. As of 31.08.2025, 1006 towers have been upgraded to 4G.
