Mobile Telephone of Veliky Novgorod was founded by Finland's operator Sonera and Novgorodtelecom. In 1996, Telecominvest re-purchased Sonera's stock. Telecominvest owned 60% and Novgorodtelecom 40% shares in the company in 1997. Mobile Telephone started it commercial activities in April 1996. It served 300 subscribers through its NMT-450 cellular network and four base stations in the Novgorod Area in 1997. In 2000 Mobile Telephone served about 3 thousand subscribers (about 1 thousand in NMT and 2 thousand in GSM standard). In April, 2001 Northwest GSM (later known as MegaFon) bought 100% of Telecominvest in Mobile Telephone of Veliky Novgorod for US$800. Shares of Mobile telephone were sold also by Novgorodtelecom (40% of authorized capital), and or. private shareholders from Novgorod (9.9%). In 2001 Megafon (previously Northwest GSM) sold Delta Telecom NMT-450 network equipment belonging to subsidiary Mobile Telephone of Veliky Novgorod. The company currently provides GSM-900/1800 standard mobile services. Its license to provide NMT-450 services have expired. Currently - Part of Megafon
