Description

Description

The MUOS Service Life Extension (SLE) project aims to extend the operational life of the Mobile User Objective System satellite constellation into the mid-2030s. The project involves risk reduction and design work for the MUOS satellite constellation to continue providing secure global narrowband voice, video, and data communications for military users. Lockheed Martin Space Systems and Boeing Defense, Space & Security have received contracts for Phase I work, which includes risk reduction and early design prior to Phase II. The MUOS system uses a 3G WCDMA cellular network architecture with geosynchronous satellites, offering about ten times the capacity of legacy UHF satellite communications.
