The project MYTHiC - Mobilize Youth Tackling Hate in Calabria has the general objective to tackle the escalation of hate speech and hate crime by promoting a coordination mechanism across, CSOs, Schools and Local authorities and communities amplifying and engaging boys and girls with different backgrounds. The project is set in the five-district capitals in Calabria: Catanzaro, Cosenza, Vibo Valentia, Reggio Calabria and Crotone. It has a European perspective by outreaching youth activist and CSOs in other EU MS in order to exchange practices on piloted strategies to fight hate speech and hate crime. The main project target are youth from secondary schools: 600 are trained on media literacy; 3000 are sensitized on hate speech/crime, 75 undertake a training to become Equity Defenders (activist); girls, marginalized communities and groups at risks are equally represented. In addition, 230 teachers are involved in the action through training and awareness; 75 representatives form regional CSOs are involved in the action and trained on hate speech/crime; 10 representatives from LAs participate in the local steering groups and regional coalition and 55 youth and CSOs from other EU MS are called to exchange practices. The project specific objectives are: 1) To establish a city wide and regional mechanism of structured cooperation among local authorities, youth and CSOs for tackling hate speech and hate crime among children and youth 2) To foster awareness of hate speech and hate crime in the school system by fostering youth activism and peer to peer actions and by promoting media literacy 3) To increase regional reporting of hate speech and hate crime cases among youth by launching referral mechanism in 5 province in Calabria region: Catanzaro, Reggio Calabria, Vibo Valentia and Crotone 4) To document and raise awareness on hate crime and hate speech in Calabria and in Europe through campaigning and exchange of practices among youth and CSOs
