Modernisation of Agricultural Statistics - Compiling fertiliser sales and use data

The Statistics on Agricultural Input and Output (SAIO) Regulation (EU) 2022/2379 requires the development of better statistics for their successful implementation. Till today, the transmission of a number of datasets that are included in SAIO were requested on a voluntary basis and through ESSC agreements. Through this project, the National Statistics Office (NSO) shall seek to compile a database of the fertilisers that are being imported and sold to farmers while collecting the quantity, wholesale price and retail price from the importers. Moreover, we will also collect the amount of fertilisers that are being used by the farmers. This will help to setup a comprehensive system in preparation for the Implementing Regulations of SAIO related to Prices and Nutrients that will come into force in the coming years. The work shall be based on the reference years 2022 and 2023 for the sales data of fertilisers from the local importers and then crop year 2023/2024 to collect the amount being used by the farmers.
