By the successful implementation of this project Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic (hereinafter SO SR) can own a modern and effective tool for estimating the yields of the selected crops by using an Earth Observation´s tools. For the implementation of this project is needed the cooperation of the Science Institute of Geography in the Slovak Academy of Sciences (Hereinafter IG SAS), which has extensive experiences in the application and development of these tools. Slovak Academy of Sciences is a platform for co-operation and development of the best scientists and researchers in Slovakia. They are actively involved in the creation and implementation of a state science and technology policy, in co-operation with all relevant institutions. The developing such a tool for specific purposes of use at the SO SR requires multidisciplinary research, for which there are insufficient capacities in our institution. The development of such a tool will contribute to a significant modernization at the Department of Agricultural Statistics at SO SR. Having a tool for estimate, the yields of selected crops can have a potential impact on the production of timely and accurate statistics that can quickly respond to emerging needs from Eurostat. Early delivery of the estimated production of the selected crops can help farmers react to the emerging market conditions and thanks to them; they can help them to set their business plan for the next economic year. Another advantage that bring these tools is reducing the burden on the reporting units and SO SR as well. The project is focused on innovative data collection and implementation of new technology to support, verify and compare the accuracy of current data collection tools from a long-term perspective.
