Description
Description | The FC project Modernisation of the small-scale fishing port of Nouadhibou (Modernisation du Port des Pêches Artisanales de Nouadhibou) envisages the construction of an auction and cold storage hall, 680 storage sheds, a sewer network and asphalted paths of around 7 km in length, as well as a fencing wall for the fishing port (investment measure). The overarching development policy objective of the project is to make a positive contribution to resource protection, employment and food security in Mauritania's fishing sector (overall objective). The project aims to increase the availability of high-quality fish for human consumption in Mauritania by modernising the small-scale fishing port in Nouadhibou and to contribute to improving the income of the population working in the fishing industry (project objective). The project sponsor is the responsible Mauritanian fishing port, the Etablissement Portuaire de la Baie du Repos (EPBR), which is part of the Nouadhibou free trade zone. The project targets Mauritanian consumers, whose access to high-quality and affordable fish will be improved by reducing losses during landing, handling and marketing. In addition, fishermen, traders and fish processing workers will benefit from new employment and income opportunities created by the development or optimization of existing value chains. |
