Description

Description

The FC measure Modernization of Power Distribution - Smart Grids Phase I is intended to promote investments in the modernization and capacity adjustment of the Bangladeshi distribution network. This is because the current outdated and inefficient power distribution network and the inadequate capacity of the power supply infrastructure pollute the environment with greenhouse gas emissions and have a negative impact on economic development and the living conditions of the population. The three intervention areas 1) modernization of medium-voltage switchgear, 2) modernization of medium-voltage lines and 3) introduction of a network control system for automated network control (SCADA) can reduce the deficits in the distribution network identified. The measures contribute to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions and ensure the future viability of the system. This supports the module objective of contributing to saving greenhouse gas emissions and to a safer, more reliable and more stable power supply. An accompanying measure supports capacity building for the introduction of the innovative SCADA system. Further personnel support is provided, among others, by in the areas of social and environmental management, occupational safety and strategic network planning in order to achieve further efficiency gains. The project aims to enable consumers and the environment to benefit from the economic, ecological and socially fair provision and use of energy in Bangladesh (DC programme objective).
