Description

Description

As part of the FC measure Modernization of the ash disposal system at the Nikola Tesla A power plant, a modern ash transport system based on thick sludge is to be introduced at the Nikola Tesla A power plant (TENT A), which will achieve significantly positive environmental and health effects. Currently, the ash generated during coal combustion at the TENT A power plant is transported to a nearby landfill using the thin sludge process. The ash is mixed with water in a ratio of 110. The problem with this method, in addition to the high water consumption, is that the sludge does not harden sufficiently on the landfill, so that ash dust forms in strong winds, which pollutes residents in the vicinity of the landfill. In addition, large quantities of wastewater are generated, some of which seeps away and some of which is discharged into the Sava River, polluting the soil, groundwater and surface water. By switching the transport process to thick sludge technology with a water-ash ratio of 11 and mixing it with the gypsum produced from the planned desulphurisation plant, these negative effects can be significantly reduced. The aim of the FC measure is to significantly reduce the adverse effects on the environment and the health of people living nearby and to increase its efficiency by changing the ash transport process in the country's largest thermal power plant, TENT A. This will conserve the natural resource of water and reduce negative environmental effects in the form of dust formation, pollution of soil, groundwater and surface water, and the potential instability of the landfill. The project therefore makes a significant contribution to environmental protection (outcome). The target group is the people living near the landfill, who will be exposed to far fewer pollutants, especially ash. The borrower is the state-owned energy supplier Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS). The total cost of the measure is estimated at around EUR 57.5 million. EPS is planning to make its own contribution of around EUR 12.5 million. Within the framework of the FC, funds of up to EUR 45 million are to be made available in the form of a low-interest loan.
