NEED AND ADDED VALUE FOR THE DANUBE REGION STRATEGY: The navigation signalization system on the Danube-Black Sea Canal is a functional need for the safety of navigation on the canal. There were signalization systems only at the locks, but the disadvantage was that this type of signalization system was usually used for railways. The light of the signals was not clearly visible in the summertime on any direction between the gates of the locks. There was no other lighting equipment, and whatever was still in place was damaged, outdated or had a low level of efficiency and required high maintenance costs. All non-lighting signals were modernized, as well as the lights of the locks, the lights at the entry and exit of the canal, as well as the lights at the junctions, the points of entry/exit of the ports and at bridges. The coast embankment lighting systems were also modernized. The non-lighting signalization system has been installed on the slopes of the canal and includes prohibition signals (boards), obligation signals, restriction signals, recommendation signals, indication signals and km boards (visible from a distance of 1.5 km). OBJECTIVE(S) OF THE PROJECT: Modernizing the navigation signalization system on the Danube–Black Sea Canal in order to ensure the safety of transport on the canal. CONDUCTED PROJECT ACTIVITIES: Acquisition and putting in place floating and costal signalization signs. TRANSBOUNDARY IMPACT: On the Danube–Black Sea Canal, which links the Danube River to the port of Constanta, goods are transported from/to Central European countries to/from Asian countries.
