Description

Description

The project aims to modify and modernize Hydro-Québec’s facilities in Inukjuak in order to integrate the energy from the Innavik hydroelectric power plant. The scope of the project includes the development of a transformer and switching station to integrate the production of the hydropower plant into the network. Hydro-Québec will also increase the grid’s voltage from 4 to 25 kilovolt (kV) to accommodate the capacity of the Innavik hydroelectric power plant and to ensure the customers’ heating load is adapted to this new green energy source. The project also includes a telecommunications system to control the customers’ heating supply. Finally, Hydro-Quebec will also build a back-up power plant, which will be less emissive that the current facility and will ensure that the community has access to a reliable source of energy when the Innavik Hydro plant is not available due to the climate in this remote community. Modifying Hydro-Québec’s facilities will result in an increased capacity to manage more renewable energy sources, notably through the integration of hydroelectricity. The construction of a back-up plant will also ensure that this rural and northern community has access to more efficient and reliable energy sources.
