In June 2008, a consortium led by OHL [Spain], and the utility Sabesp were awarded a 30-year contract to build and operate a 13,000 m3/day wastewater treatment plant in the town of Mogi Mirim, Sao Paolo State. Mogi Mirim had sewerage collection of 90% in 2008, but only had 5% sewerage treatment. During the first phase of the project ending in 2010, collection was expected to reach 25% collection. The remaining 75% of sewerage collection was expected in three following stages, lasting up to ten years. The contract was awarded in June 2008 under an international competitive tender to the only bidder, the consortium of OHL [Spain, 57%], Sabesp [Brazil, 36%] and minor shareholders. The OHL led consortium presented a tariff 18% lower than what was required in the bidding documents. The tariff was to self-adjust with inflation. OHL held the contract through its subsidiaries: OHL Medio Ambiente, Inima y Tecnicas and Gestion Medioambiental. The total project cost was estimated at US $155.7 million (BRL 285 million), with approximately US $29 million estimated for construction. Construction works began in June 2009. Operations commenced in June 2012. Converted from real to dollar using the market rate, period average for 2008 published by the IMF.
