Description | The Mohra Hydro Electric Project (HEP) is a century-old hydroelectric power project located in Uri, Jammu & Kashmir. Originally commissioned in 1902, it was among the earliest hydro stations in the region with an initial capacity of 3.75 MW, later reaching 9 MW. The project has been stalled due to viability and funding constraints, with no grants provided by the Centre despite repeated requests. A feasibility study was conducted by IIT Roorkee, recommending funding, but no funds were received. The Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC) has initiated the process to revive the project through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode, including renovation, modernization, and operation & maintenance for 20 years. IIT Roorkee is updating the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and valuation of project assets, expected by November 2025, to facilitate engagement of a transaction advisor for PPP execution, subject to approval. |
