Description
Description | The Month of European Film 2023 and 2024 incorporates the European Film Awards and creates opportunities to celebrate and watch European films in arthouse and commercial cinemas, online and on terrestrial TV across Europe. It is the crucial second stage of the European Film Academy’s 10-year plan to ensure that all Europeans who are interested in film are aware of European cinema and have opportunities to participate in it. The main focus of the activities are engagement of the audience and the development of an appetite for European films. We want to build a sense of European cultural community where audiences think “European films are ours and are part of our culture”. This project involves the sustainable expansion of the Month of European Film as a large-scale synchronization of the visibility of diverse European films during one window in the year, all over the continent. The European Film Awards is the highpoint of the Month of European Film and aims to become a celebration of the diversity of European cinema that gives the best Europe has to offer a heightened public platform and quality mark that the audiences can increasingly rely on to guide their film watching choices. The Month of European Film will grow the physical opportunities to watch European films throughout the month in 70 cinemas in 2023 and 150 cinemas in 45 countries in 2024, as well as an expansion of the Month of European Film programme on MUBI. The Awards in Berlin 2023 and Lucerne 2024 will continue to develop its reach streaming and/or broadcasting to 37 countries while boosting the involvement of the audience. The Academy aims for the only pan-European film awards to be seen as a must-watch celebration of film for cinema enthusiasts across Europe, whose ripples are felt across social media. The whole project aims to create increased opportunities to “taste” European film in a way that will lead to an increased appetite, which in turn will affect audience levels for European cinema. |
