Description | In an effort to increase tourism in Mondulkiri province, a local Cambodian company was to build a toll road linking the provincial capital to a scenic waterfall. In September of 2004, Sorla Investment Co. signed a 30-year build-operate-transfer agreement with the local government to construct a 36-km road linking Sen Monorom with Bou Sra waterfall, a popular tourist destination. The company planned to invest US$6 million in the road, which was to also connect the provincial capital to other development projects. Sorla planned to charge trucks about US$12.50 and tourism buses about US$3.70 to use the road, which it planned to complete within 18 months. The company did not expect the project to be profitable, rather it was intended to be a way to give back to the local community. None None |
