The Textile and Apparel (T&A) industry is of great importance in Mongolia as it plays a significant role in its economy through the production of cashmere, wool and camel hair products. The T&A sector contributes approximately 10% of Mongolia's total GDP and accounts for around 7-8% of total export revenues, while Mongolia supplies about 40% of the global raw cashmere market. T&A Higher Education and VET in Mongolia focuses mainly on the traditional subjects such as fiber processing, garment design and production, and cultural heritage and lags on currents trends such as digitalization, modern design methodologies, sustainability and internationalization. The HEIs are keen on exploring these subjects and the new law on education in Mongolia, which was revised and approved in 2023, allows continuous changes in the curriculum, course, etc. The HEIs have started integrating these new subjects in their curriculum and they want to explore them in collaboration with EU HEIs and Training Organizations. The project will achieve the following results: - 2 T&A hubs set up at and equipped in MUST and PCPΚ. - 8 faculties from Mongolian HEIs (4 from each HEI) will be trained in T&A by experts from the two EU HEIs. - 4 existing courses in MUST will be modernized and 4 new courses will be developed for PCPΚ. - 2 standardized training program will be developed for continued learning and certification of working professionals . - 4 industry-driven pilot projects in T&A will be developed. - 50 senior UG and PG students will be taught. - 30 working professionals in T&A will be formally introduced in the developed training program. The Project envisions achieving impact on the development of highly knowledgeable and skilled human resources in T&A in Mongolia, promotion of the knowledge generation in current T&A technologies, offered through e-learning platform, Internationalization and modernization of Mongolian HEIs, Contribute on building sustainable growth in the T&A sector.
