Montana State Prison Expansion Project

planned

The Montana Department of Corrections is moving forward with a massive expansion project at the state prison in Deer Lodge. The multi-million dollar initiative aims to address long-standing capacity issues and improve safety standards for both staff and the incarcerated population. The project is a critical step in modernizing Montana’s correctional infrastructure, which has faced significant strain due to a growing inmate census and a major water system failure last year. The state is finalizing the architectural and engineering phases.
