In August 2013, the Dominican company JRC Electronic SRL and the German company EPC Wirsol announced the development of the Monte Plata Solar photovoltaic power plant, located in Monte Plata (30 MW in capacity). In October 2011, the sponsors had been awarded a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the state-owned company Corporacion Dominicana de Empresas Eléctricas Estatales (CDEEE). By 2014, Wirsol declared insolvency, and the German company Soventix took over Wirsol's stake in the project. The investment was estimated at US$ 50 million and was financed by a Taiwan-German investment operation. There was no additional disclosed information on the financing of the project. The construction works started in 2012, commercial operations begun in September 2015.
