Description

Description

Montgomery Township officials are reviewing a proposal to install a large, remote net-metered solar array on township-owned property at the municipal complex in Skillman, NJ. The project includes two large ground arrays and carports over the police department's parking lot and near new senior housing. The array is designed to offset a significant portion of the township's electricity consumption and leverage financial incentives such as SRECs and federal tax credits. The township is considering a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) model where a third-party developer finances, owns, and operates the system, selling electricity back to the township at a reduced rate. The project aims to produce approximately 3,868,000 kWh annually, offsetting much of the township's 5.5 million kWh annual consumption, with projected savings of nearly $5 million over 15 years. The township committee is reviewing options and public concerns about aesthetics and feasibility.
