Description

Description

The project (MONAWA) involves the sustainable expansion of the Month of European Film and the European Film Awards as a part of the extended “European Award Season”. It continues to be a large-scale synchronisation of the visibility of diverse European films during one window in the year, all over Europe and gradually on other continents. The European Film Awards are the highlight of this season as a landmark celebration of European cinema. All activities related should increase the awareness and experience of European cinema. With the date change of the European Film Awards to mid-January, the Month of European Film will be expanded and a “European Award Season” will stretch from mid-October to mid-January. The upcoming editions (2025-2026 and 2026-2027) continue to incorporate the European Film Awards as the climax of a period of watching European films in arthouse and commercial cinemas, on streaming platforms and linear TV. The project focus is audience engagement and a steady growth of the appetite for and learning about European films. We want to enlarge a film-loving community. This application focuses on the main events of this “European Award Season”: the Month of European Film and the European Film Awards ceremony. Together, they will grow the physical opportunities to watch European films throughout the season, building on the quick growth of the project in the period 2022-2024. The Award ceremony editions in Berlin 2026 and Athens 2027 will continue to develop their reach: streaming and/or broadcasting to European countries, preceded by numerous screenings, retrospectives, special events and digital formats boosting the possibilities for various audiences to participate and get engaged. The Academy wants its unique pan-European film award ceremony to gradually become a must-follow celebration for cinema enthusiasts across Europe, and event whose ripples are increasingly felt across social media and the printed press.
