Description
Description | The Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal (MACM) transformation project aims to : - double the exhibition space (approxinately 4866 m2) by transforming a storeroom into an exhibition hall and adding two exhibition rooms on the roof; - expand educational spaces (approxinately 469 m2); and - bring forward the main entrance on rue Sainte-Catherine to improve access, visibility and connection with the Quartier des Spectacles. The first phase of this project includes work on the base building, such as preparatory work, demolition and design, as well as structural work and work on the building envelope, which are not part of the eligible costs of this Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) project and are covered by federal funding under the Building Canada Fund - Major Projects Component. The second phase of the project, for which funding is being requested under ICIP, includes work to fit out the building in order to alleviate the following problems : - the limited surface area of its exhibition rooms and the limited number of exhibition islands; - the configuration of existing rooms does not allow for diversification in the presentation of works; - corrective measures on the electromechanical infrastructure are necessary to maintain the designation with Heritage Canada and Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board as a Class A designated organization; - due to their layout, the accessibility of certain exhibition rooms during changes is difficult to achieve without disrupting the activities of the other rooms and hindering the museum itinerary; and - the multi-purpose room (in the basement) is obliged to limit the number of visitors due to its current location. The work in this phase includes exterior landscaping and artwork and fitting out the building’s interior spaces, such as: - the "museum" partitions, glazing and curtain walling; - covering the floors - interior systems (ventilation, plumbing, electricity, telecommunications and fire protection); - creative workshops, integrated furniture and fixed equipment; - the boutique-café. This project will give the city of Montreal better access to high-quality community, cultural and recreational infrastructure. |
