MOON EXPEDITION : a VR educational adventure

MOON EXPEDITION is a 40-minute collaborative virtual reality game for 2 to 4 players. Inspired by the real-life Apollo missions to the Moon between 1968 and 1972, MOON EXPEDITION will allow two Astronauts to carry out a scientific exploration mission on the surface of the Moon, while two Ground Controllers collaborate to ensure their safety from the Houston mission control center. This epic educational adventure aims at offering a succession of varied gameplays between the Earth and the Moon, to create unforgettable memories for all ages. Pushing the envelope of edutainment, MOON EXPEDITION will allow everyone to contemplate the Earth from the Moon, and become aware of its fragile uniqueness in the hostile immensity of Space, in a context of international collaboration despite the tensions of the Cold War. Amaury Solignac, creator of the project and founder of the Orbital Views studio, has worked as an expert for 15 years with space missions. Our project team consists of experts in video games, Location Based Virtual Reality, and Apollo missions. The studio productions have received several awards in France and the United States, including the Grand Jury Prize at the Laval Virtual festival 2019, and the Best Educational Experience award by HTC during GDC 2018. Its experiences have also been deployed in renowned science museums (Cité des Sciences, Palais de la Découverte, SparkOh!, National Science Museum of Thailand, Hong Kong Science Museum). With MOON EXPEDITION, Orbital Views aims at creating an epic yet educational experience for all ages. At a time when the Moon is back on the agenda of nations and space agencies, the scenario deals with an ever-present subject: space exploration and its impact on the world. Supported by the French CNC, MOON EXPEDITION adopts a collaborative game format suitable for Location-Based Entertainment, Family Entertainment Centers, as well as cultural and educational institutions.
